Mollie Sloan, R.N., was a good nurse, so good in fact that a group of doctors from the hospital where she’d trained used her exclusively on their most difficult cases. She had a nice apartment, money in the bank, friends galore, but something was deeply troubling Mollie. It came to a head when Eric Hart, a young concert pianist at the peak of his career, was admitted to the hospital. His right hand was completely paralyzed, though organically there was nothing the matter with it. Dr. Paul Desmond, his doctor, immediately put Mollie on the case. But in the end it was more than curing Eric so that he might return to his career. For in the process Mollie discovered that she must make one of the most difficult choices of her young life. It involved not only her work, which she loved, but two men. The trouble was that it seemed to her she was in love with them both!

His signature is on the right.

His teeth were very white and flashed when he talked or smiled. He moved gracefully and spoke with a voice that was deep and soft and musical. That was how Arline Evans, the clinic’s administrator, first saw Jamie Faloon, the new doctor at the chemical plant. Soon Arline was enraptured. But Jamie appeared quite different to the clinic doctors who watched the romance blossom. Why did the elder Dr. Faloon eye his son’s career nervously? Why did Jamie’s beautiful stepmother frantically defend him as she pushed into society? Were Jamie’s mistakes with patients due to an ambitious man’s carelessness? Or was there some hidden intent behind them—a desire to play God?

Linn looked over at the man in the bed. He was lying with his face turned to the wall. He was asleep, she thought, or in pain, because he did not turn his head when they came in. Dr. Jacoby bent over the bed. “Awake or alseep?” he asked, bending over the patient. “Ah, not asleep. I brought your nurse. A pretty girl with a pretty name. Linn. Linn Morgan.” Linn stood beside Dr. Jacoby, leaned forward and held out her hand. On her face waas the smile of welcome, of cheer, the smile that was automatic. The man lying there turned his head. Linn stood with her hand still outstretched, the smile frozen on her lips. She stood paralyzed for the eternity of a moment, aware of Dr. Jacoby’s startled look. The man in the bed was Ronald Adair!
